Open Hearth Baking

DescriptionOpen Hearth Baking
You've been told you have company coming for "dinner" - in the 19th century that means a noon meal with dessert. Your only means of baking gingerbread is the fireplace and several cast iron pots. In this half-day workshop you will learn to bake using both a wall oven in your fireplace and a dutch oven.  If you've got the right amount of coals under and on top of the dutch oven your cake will bake in no time.  You have no timer but you can check your cake with a piece of straw to see if it's done.
