Introduction to Oil Painting: Light and Shadow

DescriptionIntroduction to Raku Pottery
The success of representational painting can partly be attributed to the accurate capturing of light and shadow.  This will be the primary focus of this five-day workshop, beginning with quick studies of still lives under various lighting conditions in black and white advancing to colour, again using still lives on prepared paper.  Participants will then have the opportunity to draw from their own sources of inspiration, using personal objects and/or photos which will be painted on medium sized canvas approximately 20 x 16 inches.  At the choice of the participants, secondary focuses of the workshop may include the use of preliminary sketching, composition, colour mixing, learning how to prepare paper for painting and how to prepare their own canvases.  Each participant will have a small collection of works on paper and two works on canvas.
