Hand Building with Clay: It's Not All About the Pottery Wheel
Description
Hand-building techniques are an important and often overlooked part of pottery. Learning the basics of hand-building is a great way to complement your wheel throwing skills. It can also be an alternative to creating clay pieces for those who have tried and have been discouraged with the pottery wheel. Hand-building is also an excellent clay making method for those who have arthritis or mobility issues. So many beautiful pieces of pottery can be made through various hand-building techniques, from functional tableware to purely decorative and sculptural pieces. This five-day workshop will take you through some introductory hand-building techniques such as using slabs of clay, texturing, coiling, pulling, and sculpting to the end stages of finishing and glazing.
