Flax Processing
Description
Don't get your hackles up yet - this could be fun! Early settlers spent as much time processing flax as they did wool. They used the linen cloth for clothing and tea towels. The expression "flaxen beauty" comes from the flax plant; the blue blossoms representing blue eyes and the combed out flax looking very much like a young lady's blond locks. In this half-day workshop you will learn the process of rippling, retting, braking, scutching, hackling, spinning and weaving. It takes about a year to process from flax plant to cloth but it won't take you that long to learn.
