edVentures Fredericton’s Adds to its Jewellery & Metals Line Up

 July 2nd, 2010

Fredericton, NB – edVentures Fredericton, Atlantic Canada’s largest and most diverse summer vacation learning program in craft and culture, is ready to offer a variety of workshops for participants to learn interesting jewellery-making techniques as well as to help them customize their look by making their own accessories and more.

edVentures offers more than a dozen jewellery and metals workshops with three new offerings in this summer’s schedule.  New Brunswick College of Craft and Design (NBCCD) jewellery instructor and award-winning designer, Trudy Gallagher will be teaching the new workshop, Torchless Treasures (July 31 & August 1).  This workshop is open to both those experienced and new to creating jewellery.  Using cold joining techniques, participants will learn pierce work as well as how to use rivets, tabs binding, and eyeglass screws to create jewellery without the use of any torches or propane.  With this method participants will be able to continue to use this technique at home after completing the workshop.  As well, the ever so popular Beaded Baubles!  I – Earrings (July 17) and Beaded Baubles!  II – Bracelet (July 18) with Trudy returns to the program. This workshop has been expanded to a full-day due to the many requests of past participants.

This summer’s edVentures program runs from July 5 to August 20 and offers 130 workshops of varying lengths. Participants can choose from half, full, two or five-day workshops.

A full list of workshops can be found at www.edventures.ca.  Participants can register online or by calling Fredericton Tourism at 506-460-2233 or toll free at 1-888-850-1333.

New instructor Deborah Wybou has two workshops included in the schedule.  In the one-day Hammering & Forging (July 10) workshop, participants can create unique jewellery findings so that they can make jewellery components such as bails, clasps, headpins, and ear wires to complete their own totally handmade artistic jewellery.  She is also is conducting a two-day workshop called Introduction to Maille (August 7 & 8), where participants can learn about various chain weaves, choose a pattern and create a piece of chain woven jewellery.

Award winning Metalsmith Kristyn Cooper and designer Erica Sullivan return to this summer’s program each with three popular workshops and ccommunity partner, University of New Brunswick’s College of Extended Learning, offers several workshops for those ranging in age from 6 right up to 14 year of age that aspire to create jewellery.
