Dreamed of designing your own clothes? Want to take better photos with your digital camera? Think Japanese-style flower arrangement might reveal your inner artist? Always wanted to learn pottery and ceramics from a master? How about hands-on rug hooking -course from one of the world’s best?
edVentures Fredericton, Canada’s tourism Innovator of the Year award winner in 2009, today announced 130 exciting workshops in craft and culture. edVentures Fredericton will run from July 5 to August 20th in 2010.
Atlantic Canada’s largest learning vacation program will feature top New Brunswick artists, including internationally-renown jewellery designer Trudy Gallagher, ceramicist Peter Thomas, fashion and costumer designers Ellen Woolaver and Joanne Venart, felt artist Denise Richard, and artists Glenn Priestly, William Forrestall, Deanna Musgrave, Lloyd Fitzgerald and Sarah Petite. More than 65 instructors will offer edVentures workshops this summer.
“edVentures is all about fun. It’s very social. That’s why people love the program so much. You’re learning new skills with help from a passionate expert in the field. Combine that with all the cultural activities in downtown Fredericton like concerts, films and Changing of the Guard and you’ve got the makings of a great vacation” says David Seabrook, manager of Fredericton Tourism.
“We’ve had participants tell us it’s the most fun they’ve had since they were kids. As adults we often don’t carve out the time to refresh ourselves with new learning. edVentures is that opportunity to explore creatively again,” says Seabrook.
To register or receive an official 2010 program guide, go to www.edVentures.ca or call Fredericton Tourism at 460-2041. Fredericton Tourism organizes edVentures vacations with its principle partner the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design and the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, Kings Landing, the UNB College of Extended Learning and Science East.
The informal, fun-filled one-day, two-day and weeklong workshops are designed with beginners in mind, although the program is now offering some advanced workshops as well. Most programs are for adults, but multi-generational and children’s workshops are also offered.
